The Tackett brothers are among already a number of athletes who have opted for competing at the Craig Jones Invitational (CJI) instead of ADCC 2024.
And recently, William Tackett revealed the very simple reasons behind his decision:
ADCC is about legacy…
But a $1 million prize [by winning the CJI], that can change the trajectory of my life and my career in a very dramatic fashion.
Tackett continues:
We pay bills.
It’s expensive for us to travel and feed ourselves properly, we sometimes barely scrape by.A million dollars would change a lot and make it a lot easier to be able to travel [and] get crazy variety of different training in.
He adds yet another important part of it all…
Factoring in his parents, especially his mother, who gave up on her career to homeschool the Tackett brothers – so that more time is available for their Jiu-Jitsu training:
I know ADCC’s not going anywhere.
But who knows if there will ever be a CJI with $1M again?
I see the shot right there, let me take it.For us, it would be great for me to get back to my parents in some way.
Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
