Another Who’s Number One (WNO) event is taking place soon, in less than two weeks – on October 20. That Wednesday is promising a night full of action, featuring some of the most highly anticipated match-ups in the last 12 months.
The most highly anticipated match is, of course, the one between Gordon Ryan and Philip Rowe. After he has suffered serious stomach health issues, Ryan is making a return to competition with his eyes on the prize. Rowe, although an obvious underdog in the bout, is currently a UFC’s welterweight fighter – not someone who should be regarded as an “easy opponent” by any means.
The bout between Ryan and Rowe is an exhibition one, but WNO will feature three title fights as well! The bantamweight title match is the one between Mikey Musumeci and Richard Alarcon.
Musumeci had three wins in the promotion during this year, as well as a win at The Road to ADCC. However, he has recently lost to Gabriel Sousa in the first-round submission at WNO; so this time, he’s coming back to competing at his natural bodyweight. His opponent, on the other hand, also competes frequently in No Gi tournaments – and is an extremely skilled wrestler.
The female bantamweight title matchup is no less exciting, as Bia Mesquita will face Luiza Monteiro. Monteiro is a 5x IBJJF World Champion, whereas Mesquita is one of the most decorated grapplers in history – with 7 IBJJF World Championship gold medals around her neck, as well as an ADCC one.
The WNO flyweight title bout is between Ffion Davies and Nathalie Ribeiro. What’s interesting about the match is that Davies defeated Ribeiro two times – both in the Gi… But Ribeiro is a much more experienced submission-only competitor, who holds a 2020 win against Luiza Monteiro.
