(WATCH) Song Yadong Scores Surprise First UFC Submission In Eight Years

Song Yadong delivered a statement victory in front of his home crowd at UFC Macau, submitting former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo in the main event.

The win marked Song’s first fight in China since 2018 and his first submission victory inside the UFC since his promotional debut.

Heading into the fight, Song was a sizeable favorite due to his youth, size, and striking advantages. However, the opening round was closely contested and featured little significant offense.
Figueiredo landed the most notable punch of the round and finished the frame in top position after Song slipped while throwing a kick.

The fight changed dramatically late in the second round.

After appearing to gain momentum on the feet, Song was forced to defend a takedown attempt from Figueiredo.
Instead of simply defending, he capitalized on the position, quickly locking up a guillotine choke and forcing the former champion to tap at 4:42 of the round.

The submission was particularly significant for Song, as it was his first UFC submission victory since a guillotine choke win over Bharat Khandare in his promotional debut back in 2017.

Following the victory, Song credited Urijah Faber and the coaching staff at Team Alpha Male for helping improve his grappling skills.
And, when asked who he wanted to face next, Song made it clear that he was willing to take on any challenge the UFC offered:

I don’t give a f*ck, I take whatever you guys give me.
