Former UFC athlete Muhammad Mokaev just won another title, defeating Moris Boleyan by unanimous decision in the ACBJJ 22 no-gi grand title bout…
A match that saw him land headbutts on his opponent, before nearly closing it out with an arm triangle.
Mokaev, competing out of Cage AK MMA UK, faced off against Boleyan of Lion Hard MMA, representing Armenia.
Boleyan entered the match with an 8-1 MMA record, all eight wins coming by submission, including guillotines and triangle finishes earned as a BJJ purple belt.
Commentators noted the unusual breadth of Mokaev’s competitive schedule heading into the fight.
One commentator said that he is basically training with the European wrestling champion and competing at the Europeans too.
The match itself went back and forth on the mat, with both men threatening early submissions.
Boleyan worked guillotine and triangle attempts, while Mokaev showcased his flexibility escaping leg entanglements and defending against takedowns.
Tensions flared at one point, with the referee issuing penalties to both fighters, a kick penalty for Mokaev and a talking-back penalty for Boleyan.
As the match progressed, Mokaev took control from the top position, repeatedly driving his head into Boleyan’s chest while working to advance.
In the closing minutes, Mokaev locked in an arm triangle.
Boleyan refused to tap despite the pressure, but the choke was locked in tightly enough that Mokaev was awarded the win as time expired.
