In the unpredictable and often chaotic realm of mixed martial arts (MMA), officials sometimes find themselves going beyond their typical duties…
And, well, such was the case with a referee during a weekend bout under the Romanian MMA organization, RXF.
The referee had to take extraordinary measures to control the fighters – using trips and even his hands.
In one video, the referee is seen trying to separate a fighter from his downed opponent.
The situation escalates as the referee appears to slap the fighter in the face while he’s on the canvas, prompting the fighter to shell up and turn his back.
At a subsequent Next Fighter 8 event, the same referee was again called into action – this time grabbing a fighter by the neck and tripping him to the canvas.
It appears that he had done so in order to prevent a potential brawl between the fighter and his opponent.
Further footage reveals the referee tripping another fighter who attempted a soccer kick on his opponent.
He then pushes a different fighter to the mat from behind.
Check out the footage below.
Should the referee be fighting instead of refereeing?
