(WATCH): Max Holloway Trains Jiu-Jitsu In A Gi

Max Holloway has long been celebrated as one of MMA’s greatest featherweights, thanks largely to his striking finesse and record-breaking pace.

But behind the highlight-reel boxing combinations and relentless pressure lies another layer to his game – Holloway trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the gi, and he’s more than capable on the ground.

Although most fans associate Holloway with his stand-up dominance, he’s a legitimate grappler as well.
He holds a brown belt in BJJ and has taken two submission victories in the UFC, both by guillotine choke.

Holloway’s MMA journey began in his home state of Hawaii, where he went 4-0 on the regional circuit before signing with the UFC in 2012.
After early challenges against more seasoned opponents, he found his stride in 2014 and went on an incredible win streak that led to him capturing the UFC featherweight title.

During his reign, Holloway defended the belt three times and even moved up a weight class to face Dustin Poirier for the interim lightweight title.
By the time he lost the belt, Holloway had amassed an impressive 21-4 professional record.

Since then, Holloway has continued to compete at the highest level and remains in the title conversation.
And, while his striking continues to draw the spotlight, his ground game is often overlooked.
