(WATCH) Mario Lopez Returns To BJJ Competition – Wins Silver At IBJJF Orange County Open

Mario Lopez has stepped back onto the competition mats, showcasing his continued commitment to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the IBJJF Orange County Spring Open 2026.

Best known for his role as AC Slater on Saved By The Bell, Lopez’s connection to grappling goes far beyond acting.
Long before his jiu-jitsu journey began, he spent years training and competing in wrestling during his youth – a foundation that still shows in his matches today.

Interestingly, Lopez didn’t start jiu-jitsu until later in life.

He picked up the sport at 48, initially through his son, and has since become one of the more dedicated celebrity practitioners.
Unlike many public figures who train casually, Lopez has consistently tested himself in competition over the years.

In his opening match, Lopez demonstrated strong takedowns and solid control, securing a win with confident stand-up.
His second match proved more challenging, however, and he ultimately finished with a silver medal in the Master 4 lightweight purple belt division.

Having now held his purple belt for over three years and consistently reaching the podium, Lopez appears to be steadily progressing toward the next level…
If his trajectory continues, a promotion to brown belt may not be far off.
