In one of the more unexpected Jiu-Jitsu crossovers in recent memory, UFC star Mackenzie Dern gave an impromptu rear-naked choke lesson…
Not at a gym, but at a celebrity poker game.
And the student? None other than viral sensation Hailey Welch, better known online as the “Hawk Tuah” girl!
The event brought together a surprising mix of personalities, including Welch and former NFL running back Adrian Peterson.
At one point, Welch attempted to apply a rear-naked choke on Peterson, but the technique needed work — and that’s when Dern stepped in.
A world champion in both MMA and grappling, Dern is one of the most accomplished female BJJ athletes of all time. So, she gave Welch a crash course on the technique, guiding her through the motion before demonstrating it herself — this time on Peterson.
Dern even explained the key difference between cutting off someone’s oxygen versus their blood supply when applying a choke.
