Jocko Willink – renowned Navy SEAL, leadership expert, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt – recently promoted his daughter, Rana Willink, to purple belt.
Jocko addressed what he jokingly referred to as “complaints” about Rana’s extended time at blue belt.
Why? Well, because she was getting increasingly good at what she was doing on the mats:
I’ve been getting a lot of complaints lately in the jiu-jitsu community…
It started with some of the lower belts, then some blue belts started making comments, and then purple belts.
What made the moment especially poignant was the belt itself…
A purple belt that had belonged to Seth Stone – a close family friend of the Willinks who had passed away.
Rana shared how she felt about receiving the belt:
He was like another dad to me, so it means so much that I got his belt.
