Watch: BJJ White Belt Wins NAGA Expert Division

Most people are average when it comes to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. They make average progress and put in average training effort. Which is great – as most people don’t have any grandiose goals with BJJ; they just want to train for the sake of training.
However, other athletes are… Well, it appears that they are both more talented from the get-go and that they put in a lot more work than others do – all the way from the white belt to the black belt level.

One of those individuals seems to be Joshua Richards, a blue belt training at 10th Planet New York City. He recently posted a video on his YouTube channel, where he is featured winning a NAGA expert division belt… Back when he was a white belt!
Check it out on the video below:

Even though most of the comments in the YouTube comment section are positive, some of them are extremely doubtful of Joshua’s belt. For instance, one person said:

Extremely misleading. You may be a white belt Gi player for not training Gi but are NOT a white belt in grappling. You’re downplaying your skills for some reason but as a legitimate purple belt I can easily see you are NOT a white belt.

To that, Joshua replied:

My Instagram is @JoshrichIv I’ve documented my Jiu-Jitsu journey there and you can see I had only been doing Jiu-Jitsu for a little more than a year when I competed in this competition. Never did any grappling before that. I’ve just been addicted to Jiu-Jitsu since I started so I train 6 times a week and watch instructionals.
