A viral clip has BJJ social media buzzing this week – after members of a local Jiu-Jitsu academy realized exactly who they’d been training alongside.
Footage from JiujitsuNYC, run by Professor Alvaro Tautiva on Northern Boulevard, shows the instructor working through a takedown into knee on belly control against a man who had recently signed up as a student.
Here is the backstory, as explained on their Instagram post:
Unfortunately, this guy came to our academy trying to learn Jiujitsu.
Thank goodness we found out about his past and didn’t make this guy dangerous by teaching him a martial art.
But we did have to restrain him.
Red flags weren’t immediately apparent, according to the gym, and staff initially chalked his behavior up to eccentricity rather than anything serious.
But that changed once complaints started coming in:
We noticed something was off with him after the first couple of days. We still had no idea about his history.
We just thought he was an oddball, and that’s not a crime within itself, but then he started harassing some of the women in our academy, so we dealt with him rather quickly.
