Rising light heavyweight Billy Elekana earned his second straight UFC victory in dramatic fashion, by submitting Kevin Christian in the first round of their preliminary bout at UFC Vegas 110.
However, the finish didn’t come without controversy.
The bout began as a striking exchange, with both fighters trading heavy shots on the feet.
Elekana found his breakthrough moment with a perfectly timed counter left hand that rocked Christian badly.
Smelling blood, Elekana followed up with relentless ground-and-pound, forcing Christian to turn and expose his back.
That’s when Elekana seized the opportunity, quickly sinking in the choke.
And, even though Christian tapped out, his hand was trapped against Elekana’s body, making it nearly invisible to the referee.
Referee Chris Tognoni was positioned on the opposite side of the fighters and failed to see Christian’s initial tap before realizing he had gone out.
Within seconds, Christian went limp and the fight was stopped at 3:33 of Round 1.
