(WATCH) Bia Mesquita Survives Early Scare To Score Armbar Submission At UFC Vegas 119

Bia Mesquita came closer than ever to suffering her first professional MMA defeat on Saturday night, but the decorated BJJ champion once again found a way to finish the fight.

Competing in a preliminary bantamweight bout at UFC Vegas 119, Mesquita overcame a difficult opening round against Melissa Mullins before securing a submission victory to remain undefeated in her MMA career.

Mullins started the fight aggressively and found early success on the feet.
Mesquita’s striking defense was tested almost immediately as she absorbed a clean shot that left her visibly hurt.

Sensing an opportunity, Mullins pressed forward looking to finish the fight.

Mesquita managed to survive the dangerous moment by clinching and slowing the action down.
The exchange eventually moved to the ground, where Mullins initially found herself in a dominant position on top.

Rather than disengaging and forcing Mesquita back to her feet, Mullins chose to remain in the grappling exchange.
And that decision ultimately proved costly.

Once she recovered from the earlier damage, Mesquita showcased the world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that made her one of the most accomplished grapplers of her generation.
From the bottom position, she locked onto an armbar and rolled through the submission attempt until Mullins had no choice but to tap.

The victory improved Mesquita’s professional MMA record to 8-0 and marked her third win inside the UFC.
Perhaps most impressively, all three of her UFC victories have come by submission.
