Victor Hugo Thinks He Could Choke Out Tyson Fury In A “Real Fight”

Striker vs. grappler matchups have been a big fantasy in combat sports long before the UFC existed.

And while we’re unlikely to ever see it play out, BJJ standout Victor Hugo has been imagining a modern version of that battle – between himself and boxing legend Tyson Fury.

Speaking on the Simple Man podcast, Hugo admitted that even though he’s not looking to make a career shift to MMA…
The idea of clashing with Fury has crossed his mind:

Sometimes I get on this trip, I’m like: “Man, I think if me and Tyson Fury get into a fight, I think I can take him down and like rear-naked (choke) his a**”.

It’s not the first time a high-level grappler has sized up Fury as a hypothetical opponent – Gordon Ryan previously made similar comments.

For Hugo, the question isn’t about fame or payday, but about who would win in a real, no-rules fight:

That guy, he’s worth so much money but if it was actually a fight, I think I could take him.

He’s aware that Fury – or any elite boxer – could potentially land a punch before the takedown, but Hugo sees those odds as slim once range is closed:

I think they could tag us, maybe get tagged with the jab or something, but once you close the distance – what’s there for them?
