The United Kingdom’s Parliament has a new contender for the title of the toughest MP – Will Stone, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner and former MMA fighter.
Stone spoke about his upcoming charity match at Polaris Pro Grappling on November 2, where he’ll face Matt Inman:
Matt is a very established fighter.
He’s good, but I’m strong in certain positions. It’s going to be interesting, but I’m not a full time athlete anymore.
So I would say the odds are stacked against me.
Stone insists that his training in the military and BJJ has equipped him with skills useful in politics:
Both the army and competing in Jiu-Jitsu makes you quite robust.
And I think that’s very important for being an MP, because it is an arduous job.
He also added why he enjoys BJJ so much:
Jiu-Jitsu is live action problem solving.
So I’m trying to submit my opponent while they’re trying to submit me.So, you have to think on your feet constantly.
And I think that’s useful in politics. You’ve got to be malleable for both.
Stone used to train much more often than he does today, though he still keeps at it:
I’m getting about one session in a week, but I’m doing strength conditioning…
So I’m keeping my body strong.But Jiu-Jitsu…
I used to do 15 classes a week – I can’t do that now.

Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
