UFC’s Leon Edwards Takes An Unprecedented Step For Fight Preparation: “I’d Have To Train At 5AM”

Leon Edwards has taken additional – and quite unexpected – measures in his preparation for UFC 304.

The highly anticipated event will mark the UFC’s return to the United Kingdom on July 27, featuring Edwards defending his welterweight title against Belal Muhammad in the main event.

However, the event will operate on U.S. time…
Meaning the main event will start around 5 am UK time, affecting both fans and European-based fighters.

To cope with the unusual hours, Edwards has significantly altered his training regimen and even hired a sleep coach.
In an interview with talkSPORT, he explained why:

I’ve brought in a specialist in sleep, and they’ve given me a plan of how it will work.

I thought I’d have to train at 5 a.m. straight away, but they said basically: “Six weeks out, we’ll start switching your body clock and training.”

He detailed what the preparation will look like:

So, my evening session will now become my first session, so at 5pm I’ll do my first session and then I’ll train again at midnight.

And then each week I’ll move both sessions forward an hour to adjust to the time, so I’ll sleep later and train later.

This meticulous adjustment plan aims to ensure that Edwards is fully acclimated to the late fight time, optimizing his performance on the night of the event.
