UFC’s Brandon Moreno Addresses ‘Fake BJJ Black Belts’: “It Depends On The Standards Of The Coach”

Brandon Moreno is a two-time and current UFC Flyweight champion, who recently won his title back in a match against Deiveson Figueiredo.

Other than that, Moreno is also a BJJ black belt. He was promoted a bit less than two years ago, after 15 years of training:

When this started I didn’t even know how far it would go, I really just did and continue to do it for the love of this beautiful sport, but one of the goals was to become a black belt and after 15 years I got my black belt in BJJ.

I’m not going to deny that it feels very nice.

The “Babyfaced Assassin” was a recent guest on the Pat McAfee Show. There, he was asked what his stance is on the “fake BJJ black belts”, a topic made popular by the opinion of Islam Makhachev.

Moreno shared his, albeit different, opinion:

Definitely the fake black belts exist, for sure. But it’s not a real problem.

Every single Jiu-Jitsu coach has a different standard of how much you need to know and how much the level needs to be to give you the black belt.

Some coaches give you the black belt very easily, and other coaches give you a black belt with a lot of hard work. So it is always depending on the standard of the coach.
