UFC Vegas 41: Alex Caceres Sets Up a Standing Body Triangle & Rear Naked Choke

If you can combine a Body Triangle with the Rear Naked Choke… Your training partner or opponent will definitely not have a good time. Such was the case for Seung-Woo Choi, who was tapped out via this exact same setup by Alex Caceres at UFC Vegas 41.

Choi started out the fight aggressively, even dropping Caceres with a right hand in the opening minutes of the first round. He then followed up with some ground and pound, seeming to be close to finishing the bout; but the he kicked his opponent with an illegal knee (while Caceres was grounded).
He earned a point deduction for this move from the referee, and also gave Caceres just enough time to recompose himself to make it through the rest of the first round.

A similar thing happened in the second round as well. Caceres was dropped, but then managed to regain composure yet again… As well as to make it to Choi’s back – where he locked in a standing Body Triangle! After some punches, he set up a Rear Naked Choke; his opponent eventually dropped down to his knees and tapped out.
Caceres shared his experience in a post-fight interview:

I didn’t know what happened, honestly. He hit me really hard, I went to the floor. I saw him trying to climb up on top of me, then all of a sudden I felt another shot. I didn’t know what it was, and yeah, I flashed. I’m like: ‘Oh cr*p, this might be it.’
But then I regained my composure almost right away and I was ready to go again.
