The long-awaited launch of the UFC’s first grappling reality series is finally set! UFC BJJ: Road to the Title will premiere on June 16th, 2025.
The format will feature two teams of top competitors from the lightweight and welterweight divisions, all battling for the honor of becoming the inaugural UFC BJJ champions.
And, well, plans for the show had been in motion for months.
Rumors began circling in late 2024 about a grappling-centric reality competition featuring some of the sport’s biggest names.
It didn’t take long for UFC President Dana White to confirm that something major was in the works.
Still, concrete details were scarce, aside from one – Mikey Musumeci, who holds an exclusive UFC contract, would be taking part as one of the coaches.
And, while many expected Gordon Ryan to be the opposing coach, health issues ultimately kept that pairing from happening.
Craig Jones was also considered but turned down the offer due to it being a “bad deal”.
Eventually, the UFC landed on Rerisson Gabriel as Musumeci’s coaching rival.
Though newer to the black belt ranks and primarily known for his gi achievements, Gabriel brings a strong pedigree to the table – including notable wins over Zach Kaina and Diogo Reis.
