Charles Oliveira proved, once again, why he’s one of the best grapplers in the UFC. In the main event of UFC 269, the lightweight champion defended his title against Dustin Poirier with a tight Rear Naked Choke!

It was Poirier who was dominant in the first round, however. Immediately from the get-go, Dustin poured a rain of punches against Oliveira, dropping him… In the first 15 seconds of the fight! However, Charles got up and started delivering strikes and knees from the clinch.
After defending for a bit, “The Diamond” went on the offensive again. Soon enough, he dropped Oliveira on the canvas again; not engaging him there though, but allowing him to stand back up.

The second round went to Oliveira. After a scramble which resulted in a takedown, he ended up on top of Poirier – from where he delivered vicious elbows. Dustin was essentially stuck in his own guard and trying to endure, while Charles played the patience game and barraged his opponent with strike after strike, until the end of the round.

And then, in the third round, Charles Oliveira capitalized on the groundwork he placed in the second round – and on his BJJ prowess. He closed the distance and established a body lock, moving behind Poirier. From there, he jumped on The Diamond’s back!
After locking his legs, Charles started fishing for the Rear Naked Choke. And, soon enough, he got it; with Dustin seeing no way out other than tapping out.
