UFC 266: Jonathan Pearce Submits Omar Morales with a Rear Naked Choke

The UFC hasn’t seen a shortage of submission finishes lately, and such was the case at UFC 266 as well. The Las Vegas event took place at the T-Mobile Arena, with fans eagerly waiting for the two title fights to take momentum.
However, it was a featherweight fight between Jonathan Pearce and Omar Morales that kicked off the UFC’s preliminary card… And it was a fantastic match: Pearce won via Rear Naked Choke!

UFC 266: JONATHAN PEARCE VS. OMAR MORALES

The first round started with Pearce’s aggressive pace. He placed a lot of pressure on Morales and was apparently trying to finish him as soon as possible. On the flipside, Morales seemed much more patient in his approach; seemingly waiting for his chances and openings to engage Pearce. However, Pearce managed to impose his game in the second half of the first round. He used a neat Double Leg setup to bring his opponent to the ground… Although Morales was successful in getting back to his feet soon afterwards.
Nonetheless, Pearce spent the remaining minutes of the round taking down Morales over and over again, taking his energy away with pressure.

The beginning of the second round was quite similar to the first one, with Pearce pressuring Morales. He went for a takedown yet again and got it, but almost got tapped out by a Darce Choke in an ensuing scramble.
He successfully recovered from the choke, and then got to his opponent’s back. From there, he tried to immediately choke him out with a Rear Naked Choke – but Morales defended against it properly. However, when Pearce imposed an Arm Triangle choke threat, Morales had to defend; after which his opponent went for a Rear Naked Choke yet again. This time he did so successfully, getting the tap in a quick fashion.
