Injuries in Jiu-Jitsu are a common occurrence, which isn’t all that surprising – given that we are all training a martial art.
And no, even famous actors who portray unbeatable superheroes in movies aren’t immune to them, including Tom Hardy.
Hardy, a world-famous Hollywood actor, is a purple belt in BJJ.
And he has suffered injuries to his knees that forced him to go for two knee surgeries:
One was from a sweep, and the other one was actually from the meniscus tear.
Despite these setbacks, Hardy keeps training and stays committed to the Gentle Art.
He explained how it felt to start training back in the day:
I’ve always been a bit nervous of the fighting martial arts community, because I thought: “Well… This is for them, not for me. I don’t think I belong.”
I didn’t feel like it was for me, because I was intimidated, maybe.
Once he started training, however, it all took on a different feeling:
Now it’s more of a meditation or relaxing.
I don’t need to win, I don’t care…
I always get beaten, but that’s okay.
Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
