Tom DeBlass Slams ‘Garbage’ Self-Defense Classes: “False Sense Of Self Confidence”

Tom DeBlass has criticized what he calls “garbage” self-defense classes, arguing they give students – particularly women – a dangerous false sense of confidence.

DeBlass posted a video on Instagram of one such class, calling out both the instruction and the reactions it received online.
Some praised the class for “giving them the confidence to fight back”, but DeBlass argued that this is exactly the problem:

It’s a false sense of confidence.

According to DeBlass, teaching unrealistic techniques can convince women they’re capable of handling situations against much stronger opponents, when in reality, their chances of survival depend on proper instruction.

Instead of impractical drills, he believes classes should focus on situational awareness, escaping safely, and if necessary, realistic techniques that actually work under pressure.

The criticism extended to law enforcement training as well.
DeBlass compared shallow women’s self-defense seminars to “half-baked police training” that some departments recycle every few months:

You would be better off not training at all than training like that.

For DeBlass, the takeaway is simple: survival skills can’t be learned through shortcuts.
True preparation requires serious, consistent training in proven methods:

Dedicating yourself to learning how to handle yourself in this world is important.
Stop drinking the bullshido.
