If you have been training Jiu-Jitsu for any length of time, chances are that you’ve heard of certain academies that charge their students, well…
A substantial amount of money.
And, even though there are different opinions on whether or not this is a legitimate business practice, Tom DeBlass disagrees on it.
Here is what he had to say in a recent social media post:
I just had a kid come in from a Karate school.
They were charging $220 a month for training twice a week, along with $50 every promotion.
The owner had no accomplishments besides being a good business man.
School owners, you don’t need to nickle and dime everyone to be successful. I’ve grown one of the largest affilations and schools in the world by having compassion to both my affilates and students.
So many people struggle to make ends meet, I never turn them away.
DeBlass continued to explain his approach to doing business as an academy owner:
Money has been a consequence of consistently taking care of everyone around me.
I charge about half of what that dude with absolutely no name, accomplishments, or respect has.
