USADA has announced that Tayane Porfirio has been suspended from IBJJF competition for three months after testing positive for Carboxy-THC, a urinary metabolite of THC, during a routine test at the IBJJF World Championship 2026 on May 31st, 2026.
Her sample came back above the urinary Decision Limit for the substance, the main psychoactive component of cannabis, marijuana, and hashish.
The suspension is backdated to July 8th, 2026, when she was first provisionally suspended, and will run through October 8th, 2026, meaning she has already served the bulk of the ban.
Porfirio has also been stripped of any titles or medals won since the date of her positive test, including both of her IBJJF World Championship silver medals from that event.
The IBJJF has not yet updated its standings, but typically follows a standard process in these cases, promoting the bronze medalist she defeated to silver and naming a new bronze medalist in her place.
This marks the second time Porfirio has been suspended and stripped of medals at the World Championship, following a positive test for nandrolone in 2018 that resulted in a four-year suspension.
While repeat offenses within a 10-year window typically carry harsher penalties, USADA opted not to apply that standard here, stating: “She is not subject to an increased sanction in this case under the applicable rules because her use of THC occurred out-of-competition and was unrelated to sport performance.”
She is also eligible for a reduced one-month sanction if she completes a USADA-approved treatment program, though with just over a month left on her suspension and no major gi IBJJF events scheduled in that window, the reduction offers little practical benefit.
Porfirio addressed the positive test and subsequent suspension in a statement posted to her official Instagram account:
