Storm Kimonos To Support Braulio Estima Despite 2 yr Ban For Banned Substance

Tonight news broke out of multiple BJJ world champion Braulio Estima having received a 2 year suspension after failing a PED test following the IBJJF 2014 World Championship.

Last June during the 2014 Jiu-Jitsu world championships, Braulio Estima took the gold medal in the medium heavyweight class closing out the bracket with team mate Romulo Barral. After the tournament, Estima was controlled by USADA.

The results came back positive for Methylhexaneamine (DMAA) which is commonly found in some pre-workout drinks. Estima has been stripped of his title by IBJJF and USADA and has been given a 2 year suspension.

In a time where many sponsors drop their athletes and even cut all ties after failed tests, personal problems or public scandals (Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods for example), Estima’s long time sponsor Storm Kimonos has decided to support and stand by their athlete and has issued the following statement in a press release:

storm kimonos

“The Management of STORM Kimonos® wishes to advise that ongoing full support will be provided to their STORM T1ER ONE Athlete,
Mr. Braulio Estima, despite the unfortunate situation that he finds himself in regarding a positive test result for Methylhexaneamine (DMAA),
commonly found in some pre-workout drinks.  Whilst this is a non-steroidal substance it is listed with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) as a banned substance.   It is important to note that we understand the substance to be due to accidental ingestion and further we respect the reality that Braulio has assumed the position of taking full responsibility of the contents of his body and has accepted the USADA ruling.  It is in regard to this that we will provide continued ongoing support and friendship with Mr. Braulio Estima.

Athletes need to be fully aware and paying attention of what they are eating and drinking and be ever vigilant about safeguarding
themselves from even accidental contamination, particularly in the midst of competition.

We know Braulio to be a clean living, hardworking gentlemen and World Class Athlete who will continue to inspire current and
future generations.
