Stephen Thompson recently shared his experience training alongside Georges St-Pierre – offering insight into what made the former UFC champion such a standout athlete and training partner.
Among those Thompson has trained with, St-Pierre left a lasting impression not just for his skill but for his mindset in the gym:
He was the best guy in the room – but he always comes in with an “empty cup”.
Always ready to learn and not afraid to get smashed.
His mindset is truly something else – always apt for learning and improving:
He never had a problem with getting thrown around or learning something new.
The way he came into the gym, the way he trained with everybody else…
It wasn’t like: “Let me get mine and bolt.”It was like: :Let’s train together, and afterward, let me show you something.”
Although Thompson and St-Pierre never crossed paths in competition, the thought of a prime matchup between their distinct styles remains an intriguing “what if” scenario.
Both fighters embody a level of respect and discipline in MMA that is – by some – becoming increasingly rare.
