As further proof of the important place of the Gracie family in Brazilian society: Brazilian newspaper “O Globo” broke the news to the public. Grandmasters Carlos and Helio Gracie, the founding brothers of Jiu-Jitsu, will be honored with statues in Rio de Janeiro, on the world famous Copacabana neighborhood on October 1.
The artist Vilma Noel has been assigned by the city of Rio De Janeiro to built the statues. The exact location has yet to be determined. The inauguration is scheduled for Oct. 1 2013, when Professor Helio would have been 100 years old.
