Ruotolo Twins Promoted to Purple Belt After 14 Yrs of Training BJJ

Twin brother Kade and Tye Ruotolo represent a new generation of BJJ players. They are 16 years old and have been training since the age of 3 hey have won everything that there is to win in BJJ at juvenile and kids divisions. They have sponsorships from major brands and are students of Andre Galvao.

They started training with their dad and then with the Mendes Bros then moved to Galvao’s.

Tye Rutolo made headlines this year when he qualified for the ADCC worlds and took 3rd place being a 16 year old blue belt. On his way to the finals he defeated 2 black belts (including the legendary Bruno Frazatto) then faced Paulo Miyao in the semi-final in a very closed match where he had the Brazilian in a very deep kneebar. Miyao ended up winning on points.

Tye then defeated the veteran black belt 2x ADCC medalist Vagner Rocha at Fight2Win. With all of these accomplishments, Andre Galvao decided that it was time to promote them to purple belt. Under IBJJF, you have to be minimum 18 years old to be awarded a black belt in IBJJF.

The brothers stated on IG:

Purple Belt Promotion 🙌🏽 2019 was definitely one of our biggest years of growth in Jiu Jitsu. At our first year of competing at juvenile, we won gold at all of the big tournaments that we had entered. Europeans, Pans and Worlds. We also created opportunities to test our skills in some of the biggest competitions in submission grappling, with ADCC being the most memorable and starting the momentum. The experiences of traveling, winning, losing, learning, training, meeting new people is all part of this life and we are stoked to be where we are.
Thank you Professor Andre and Professor Angelica for creating such an amazing place to train. We love our team. We are also grateful for all of our sponsors, family and friends for the support we have had throughout the years. We are really looking forward to 2020 🙏🏽 Happy New Year.
