Rose Namajunas: ‘I Would Like To Test My Jiu-Jitsu with Mackenzie Dern’

UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas was recently on the UFC unfiltered podcast where she was asked about what she thought about mackenzie Dern’s performance and her missing weight repeatedly for her MMA fights:

(transcript via MMA Mania)

“Other than the weight issue, I thought she looked great. That is something, I’ve always wanted to test my jiu-jitsu against, that would be awesome, I would like to face her. But, she just has to get her sh-t together and that may be down the road.”

“She beat Gabi Garcia in a jiu-jitsu match, so that would be awesome. And she can obviously strike a little bit. She has that heavy first step, that a wrestler has sometimes that good right hand.”

“You can tell she has that style developing. So it will be interesting to see if she can fix her issues and maybe she can be a future contender.”

Namajunas is a brown belt in BJJ and is known for her submission game. 5 out of her 8 MMA wins have come by way of submission.

You would expect grapplers to favour submissions over knockouts. In Namajunas case, she is more of a striker but said HERE that she prefers a submission to KO:

I think for me, I prefer a submission. Well see the thing is, I appreciate both. I think that the actual feeling of a KO is definitely more exciting and your adrenaline spikes way higher but I think that with the submission I definitely feel like it’s more reliable to like go for a submission because it’s like I don’t know I feel like it’s safer you know. You can get in and get out like when you wait you know you just take somebody down and then just submit them and it’s a quicker fight you know, if you can submit if you have that tool.

If she tries to grapple with Mackenzie, she will her hands full facing a multiple times BJJ world and ADCC champion.

The two might square off sooner than most people think.

Meanwhile Dern is scheduled to appear at an amazing camp –  undefeated UFC fighter and multiple World and ADCC Champion Mackenzie Dern will be leading a BJJ/grappling camp in Barcelona, Spain 29,30 june, 01 july 2018.
