Rener Gracie Suffers “Most Ridiculous Injury” Of His Career In Everyday Mishap

After decades of pushing his body through grueling martial arts training, Rener Gracie shared that the worst injury he’s ever suffered didn’t come from a match, a sparring session, or even the gym.

Instead, it came in the most mundane way possible:

You guys will not believe what happened. I tore the extensor tendon in my left middle finger.

I’ve been training my whole life and I’ve never had a serious finger injury and then I’m adjusting my shorts, sliding my hand down the side of my shorts and the tip gets stuck in my pocket and that’s what snaps my tendon – unbelievable.

After researching treatment options, Gracie learned that the tendon might heal with splinting for six to ten weeks.
Instead, he opted for a surgical fix:

There’s a surgery we can do where we inject, we embed two pins straight through the bones of your fingertip and it locks it out so it’s like a permanent splint and I did that yesterday.

The recovery period will last up to ten weeks, with the pins acting as an internal splint until they can be removed.
What comes next remains uncertain:

Then we rip those rods out and then we see – the moment of truth.

Do I have the finger capability or do I not?
I don’t know, but that’s where we’re at right now.
