Rafael Lovato Launches A New Movement To ‘Save Jiu-Jitsu’ From Stalling & Point Fighting

World champion Rafael Lovato Jr has been competing all his life and he has also been on the losing end of some matches where his opponents were playing the tactical game and going for advantages.

As a result he has launched a new movement ‘Save Jiu-Jitsu‘ to fight against the sport aspect of Jiu-Jitsu which he believes goes against the principles of Jiu-Jitsu which are to dominate and submit your opponent.

He made the following statement on his facebook:

“Jiu Jitsu is about controlling, dominating and FINISHING your opponent. Not “playing” for little advantage points.

Do you know what the most important aspect of having a really, really dangerous jiu jitsu guard game that allows you to dominate and FINISH your opponent is?

I can tell you one this it’s not…

It’s is not about every new “flavor of the month” specialty guard or trick that you can use to gain a little advantage point and stall out your opponent.

A dangerous guard comes from being well rounded and having a real foundation of the basics and understanding of how to move and play from many different positions on the bottom and a drive to DOMINATE and FINISH your opponent.”

Let’s see how far this movement goes and if it has an effect on the IBJJF.
