Pat Downey & Gordon Ryan Agree To A Special-Rules Match: “I’ll Show Proof To The Planet”

The rivalry between Gordon Ryan and Pat Downey is still going strong – as the two grapplers have now agreed to a match with unique conditions, based on the ADCC scoring system!

Their initial encounter in 2020 saw them compete in two separate matches, each under their preferred rules.
Ryan dominated Downey in a submission-only match, winning via submission; while Downey returned the favor with a decisive tech fall in their wrestling match.

Therefore, this will be the first time that the two athletes have agreed on a single ruleset for their bout.
Given that one of ADCC’s main objectives is to create a ruleset that accommodates various grappling styles, it makes sense for Downey and Ryan to base their upcoming match on these principles.

However, instead of a standard match, Ryan proposed a twist: resetting every time someone scores, and declaring the winner as the first to score three times.

Pat Downey took to Instagram to share a screenshot of his conversation with Gordon Ryan – showing their agreement to the special conditions for their match:
