This clash represents a true bout between youth and experience, as Abate, still shy of his 20th birthday, takes on Aoki – who was already an accomplished black belt and professional fighter when Abate was born.
By the time Abate first tried Jiu-Jitsu at age 5, Aoki had already competed in ADCC and claimed titles in both Shooto and WAMMA.
Now in his 40s, Aoki continues to be an active fighter in MMA, recently submitting John Lineker at ONE 165.
Although primarily known for his MMA career, Aoki has remained a regular in the submission grappling scene as well.
He has been taking on grappling matches in ONE Championship since 2017, with recent bouts against elite names like Kade Ruotolo at ONE 157 and Mikey Musumeci at ONE Fight Night 15.
After falling short in those matches, Aoki will be aiming to turn things around against Abate.
Meanwhile, Abate, who signed with ONE Championship just a few weeks ago, is eager to make an impressive debut.
