Amit Elor, the youngest US Olympic champion ever, recently shared details about her first encounter with her partner, Mica Galvao.
Elor has solidified her place as one of the top wrestlers globally, having won the wrestling world championship at under 72kg in 2022 and 2023.
Her achievements culminated in a gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where she made history in the under 68kg division.
Currently a purple belt in BJJ, Elor often trains with some of the sport’s best, thanks to her relationship with Mica Galvao.
And, in a recent interview with FloGrappling backstage at ADCC 2024, Elor spoke about their relationship.
She recalled their first meeting:
Honestly, and this is gonna sound funny, but my first thought when I met Mica (Galvao) was like: “I bet I can beat him!”
I got, like, so competitive because at that time I was competing with boys.
But very quickly I switched off and had more opportunities with girls.
Though they started as training partners, their relationship evolved over time:
I kinda, like, ghosted him a little bit on Instagram for a while.
Then fast-forward to COVID and we’re all kind’ve on our phones a lot, and so we started talking a lot.
He was inviting me for a while to come train Jiu-Jitsu at his gym in Manaus.I went, I visited, and we kinda got to know each other more and it was really fun.
I also fell in love with Manaus, and Brazil in general.

Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
