Nicky Ryan Shares Details Of Upcoming ACL Reconstruction Surgery

Nicky Ryan has announced that he will be undergoing ACL reconstruction to address long-standing knee issues that have hindered his career.

Once considered one of the top prospects in Jiu-Jitsu as a teenager training under John Danaher, Ryan has since become one of the four founders of B-Team Jiu-Jitsu.
Despite his expertise and success, persistent knee injuries have prevented him from reaching his full potential.

Ryan first suffered a knee injury in training in early 2021, forcing him to withdraw from a match.
At the time, it seemed like a minor setback, and he quickly returned to competition.

However, he reinjured the knee during a match at Road to ADCC and initially considered surgery before deciding against it.
Now, after dealing with the issue for years, he has finally opted to undergo ACL reconstruction:

I mean, probably going to be getting ACL reconstruction soon, so that kind of sucks.

Ryan revealed that the injury significantly impacted his preparation for the inaugural Craig Jones Invitational last year:

It was almost, what, three years with no ACL?
And then actually, in the last CJI camp, it just completely ruined my camp.

Like, I pretty much didn’t train for like the last three weeks because anytime I train, it would just get super sore and I’d be literally limping that night.

He also described how hard training sessions affect him:

It gets sore and on days where I really like scrap, especially if I’m wrestling, it’ll be buckling when I’m just walking around the house and stuff.

Currently, Ryan is in the process of scheduling the surgery:

I got an MRI three years ago when I first tore it, found out it was fully torn and then I just got an MRI done a few days ago actually and then I have the follow-up appointment with the surgeon next Friday.

Probably figure out a surgery schedule.
