Nicholas Meregali – who was heavily favored to dominate at ADCC 2024 – faced a surprising early defeat in the second round.
He was defeated by Michael Pixley, a wrestler and purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu – and also suffered a serious shoulder injury during the match.

Last Saturday, Meregali took to social media to share an update on his condition, revealing that he had undergone surgery to reconstruct his shoulder and bicep:

The shoulder and biceps reconstruction surgery was a success.
My doctor opted for Latarjet surgery to correct the shoulder injury and we had to reinsert the biceps into the joint.

Despite the setback, Meregali expressed a positive outlook…
Even though there’s no clear timeline for his return to competition:

I am at peace and confident that this experience will add a lot to my life and for that I am happy, even in the face of the chaos that the situation seems to be.

Thank you for all the support.

Prior to ADCC 2024, Meregali had confidently declared himself the tournament’s future double gold medalist in a social media post.
His fans are hopeful that, by the time the next ADCC takes place, he will be more than healed up and ready to take on the same challenge.
