MMA legend Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has reached a major milestone in his martial arts journey after being promoted to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt by Allan Goes – a seventh-degree coral belt and fellow MMA veteran.
The promotion connects two fighters whose careers overlapped during the golden era of PRIDE.
Goes, a Carlson Gracie black belt, competed professionally from 1995 to 2007, while Jackson made his MMA debut in 1999 and fought all the way until 2019.
Their paths crossed more than once, including PRIDE 18 in 2001, where both men competed on the same card against different opponents.
Jackson’s combat sports foundation began in wrestling, but he became globally famous for his knockout power after transitioning to MMA.
His rise started on the U.S. regional circuit before exploding in Japan, where he reached the finals of the 2003 PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix and challenged for the title.
He later moved to the UFC, winning the light heavyweight championship and unifying it with the PRIDE title, by defeating Dan Henderson.
After his UFC run, Jackson continued his success in Bellator, winning their light-heavyweight tournament before retiring with a professional record of 38–14.
Across more than 50 fights, he consistently faced elite grapplers and demonstrated strong defensive and positional skills, even though only four of his wins came by submission – all early in his career.
Unlike many fighters from his era, Jackson never tested himself in professional grappling competition.
However, he did explore other combat sports after MMA, including a brief stint in professional wrestling with appearances in WWE and TNA, followed by a match at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport Bushido event in 2024.
