Mikey Musumeci Stripped Off His ONE Championship Belt After Having To Cut 35 LBS In 72 Hours

Mikey Musumeci has just shared that he was stripped off his ONE Championship belt…
After trying to lose about 35lbs in just 72 hours.

Musumeci was initially preparing for a match against Kade Ruotolo, at 170 lbs.
But Ruotolo had to pull out of the match due to injury, so ONE Championship gave a replacement opponent to Musumeci days before the fight – with the addition of having to face him at 135 lbs.

Musumeci tried to drop the weight, but faced issues during the weigh-in due to being 136 lbs and due to dehydration issues.
So, he was stripped off his belt.

He shared what happened via social media:

Probably one of the worst days of my life in Jiu-Jitsu.
I wanted so bad to compete in One 168 in Denver, I felt horrible to the fans that were coming to see me and I felt I was letting them down.

I tried to make the championship 135 lb weight in about 72 hours but it was too much on short notice after preparing for the Kade match.
My body and hydration shut down when I got to 136 earlier today.

Today I lost my belt, today I let down the fans and i want to apologize to my opponent Bebeto, someone I respect greatly, not being able to make the weight.

I’m so sorry to everyone I gave it my all. But God has everything happen for a reason.
I’m so sorry again everyone.
