Mikey Musumeci Reveals Why He Won’t Be Competing In The IBJJF Gi World Championship Ever Again

Mikey Musumeci has officially ended his participation in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) World Championship – in the gi.

During a recent Instagram Q&A session, Musumeci addressed his future competition plans – revealing a significant shift in his career focus and priorities.

When asked if he would consider returning to compete at the IBJJF Worlds to face new challengers, Musumeci’s response was straightforward:

Unfortunately there’s no money in the gi, and I already won everything I wanted to.
I have no interest in the same medal again.

Musumeci has been vocal about his support for initiatives aimed at improving athlete pay in Jiu-Jitsu, such as Craig Jones’ CJI.
Therefore, the abovementioned comment indicates that he is prioritizing opportunities that offer better financial rewards.

Despite stepping away from the IBJJF Worlds, Musumeci’s love for the gi remains strong.
He shared:

I must admit I have gotten significantly better in the gi only training nogi but unfortunately until there’s no motives for me at this time to come back home!

Gi is definitely in my heart forever tho.
