Mikey Musumeci On Fear Of Disappointing Others If You Lose A Match: “I’ve Experienced This”

Are you afraid of letting down your training partners and coach when you compete?
Do you feel like you’ll be judged by others if you lose?

That’s a common fear of BJJ competitors.
And Mikey Musumeci has experienced it himself.

He spoke about that fear in a recent social media post:

I definitely experienced this so many times as well – and it’s the fear of letting down or being judged by others if you lose a match.

That feeling of embarassment, that our self worth is tied to the outcome of the match.

Musumeci emphasised the importance of having the right people around you:

And the first thing I’ll say is: if you’re around the right people, around a good circle of people, they definitely will not judge you for the outcome of the match.

They’ll just be proud of you for challenging yourself.

Sure, there will be those who judge, but…

There definitely will be people that judge us or criticise us.
Most of them don’t train themselves or they don’t even have the courage to compete.

And if one of these people is in your circle and you lose, and they judge you or change their perception of you – do you want this person in your life?
So, I see that as a blessing if you lose that person.

Once we let go of this fear of being judged by others, competing becomes so much fun.
