Mikey Musumeci has offered clarification on his recent remarks about PED use in professional grappling – following an intense back-and-forth with Gordon Ryan.
After his victory at the UFC FPI 9 event, Musumeci addressed the controversy during the post-fight press conference, emphasizing mutual respect for Ryan despite their differing opinions on the ster*oid use:
I have nothing against Gordon.
He’s grown the sport tremendously and I have the utmost respect for him. We’re both from the same town in New Jersey…
What I stand for and what he stands for are a bit different, and I’m just keeping it real.
Musumeci elaborated on his stance regarding PED use, offering a more nuanced perspective:
If you take PEDs, you’re definitely an athlete. I would just say you’re a super athlete.
You don’t count as a “regular” athlete.
He continued to emphasize the importance of changing the sport’s trajectory for future reference:
The people that took ster*ids in the past – awesome, good for you, that was your generation.
Maybe you didn’t have the rules of ster*ids in your time. Now because it’s a new generation, take a stand and change the sport…
Focus on the next generation and having kids not follow what you did hurting your body doing d*ugs.
