Mike Davis had a message for UFC matchmakers after being controlled on the mat for the better part of three rounds at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Saturday…
He’s done facing wrestlers.
Davis dropped a unanimous decision to undefeated Tajik grappler Nurullo Aliev on the UFC Abu Dhabi prelim card, with all three judges scoring it 30-27 for Aliev.
Davis never found the striking-based pace he wanted, spending most of the fight on his back or pinned against the cage.
He addressed the loss in a blunt post-fight interview, first ruling out illness as an excuse despite having been sick in the lead-up to the bout:
I’ve been sick all week. And I still went out there for it, and I felt great. I felt amazing.
I didn’t take a deep breath the entire match. I was fine.
The fight played out largely on Aliev’s terms from the start.
He secured an early takedown and controlled top position through most of the first round, with Davis briefly returning to his feet after absorbing knees to the thigh.
The second round followed a similar pattern, though Davis found a moment of success, briefly locking in a triangle choke before Aliev worked free and reestablished pressure inside his guard.
By the third round, Davis was relying on butterfly guard and scrambles to change the dynamic, but each time he returned to his feet, Aliev took him back down almost immediately.
Davis didn’t hold back afterward on how he felt about the style of fight:
For the UFC, bro, I thought you were cutting wrestlers, bro. All they do is suck d**k for 15 minutes and then don’t even let you finish.
Like what? What are we doing? You’ve been cutting undefeated people on streaks all the time for wrestling.
This isn’t RAF, bro. This is g*y. That is g*y, bro.
He was equally direct about what he wants going forward:
Just g*y people around the university and get them the f**k out of here.
I just want to bang, bro. I just want to bang.
