Mica Galvao has officially outlined his plan to transition to mixed martial arts (MMA), revealing that he intends to make his debut in two years.
The 21-year-old prodigy shared the timeline during a recent conversation with renowned strength and conditioning coach Rogerio Camoes – the same trainer credited with transforming UFC star Mackenzie Dern’s physical game:
When? In two years, but only then.
Galvao is keeping his focus on long-term preparation rather than a rushed move.
Talk soon turned to weight class — a crucial factor for Galvao’s eventual MMA transition.
Initially leaning toward competing at 77 kilograms (welterweight), he reconsidered after discussions with Camoes, who suggested that lightweight (70 kilograms) might better suit his frame:
I thought 77, but now I’m seeing the size of this beast, huh?
I think it’ll have to be 70.
Camoes, however, questioned whether dropping to lightweight would be necessary, pointing out one of Galvao’s most overlooked advantages – his exceptional reach:
The biggest advantage is because of the reach, man.
The reach of this guy is something monstrous.
Therefore, if his current trajectory continues, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world may only have two more years to witness Galvao’s dominance before he steps into the cage.
