Mia Funegra Becomes Youngest IBJJF World Champion In History At Just 18

Mia Funegra has officially etched her name into the record books, becoming the youngest IBJJF World Champion of all time at just 18 years and 193 days old.

The previous record, held by Tye Ruotolo after Mica Galvao was stripped of his 2022 title, stood for a little over two years – but Funegra has now taken that crown.

Her rise through the Jiu-Jitsu ranks has been nothing short of meteoric, powered by her training at the prestigious Art of Jiu-Jitsu academy.

She’s not alone in her success, either.
The Funegra sisters have taken the competitive scene by storm, and this year’s IBJJF World Championship was a full family affair.

The youngest, Natalee, started things off with double gold in the juvenile 2 blue belt division, winning both her weight class and the light absolute.
Ashlee, Mia’s twin sister, followed that up with a dominant run to the brown belt light-featherweight title.

And then, both Ashlee and Mia were promoted to black belt together – a massive milestone in itself.

Just three days later, Mia made her black belt debut – and she didn’t waste a second proving she belonged.
She defeated four elite veterans across two days, beginning with former world champion Amanda Monteiro.

She followed that up by eliminating Ann Marie Wright, top-seeded Jessica Dantas in the semifinal, and finally Andressa Tolentino in the finals to claim the gold.
