Mendes Bros Training with Judo Great Flavio Canto

The Mendes brothers, Guilherme and Rafel, multiple times world champions in BJJ who have recently retired form competition, were this weekend training with Judo Olympic silver medalist Flavio Canto.

Canto is known in the Judo world for his amazing newaza. He also has a BJJ black belt.

The brothers showed Canto their trademark Berimbolo back take and the Judo showed them his trademark Canto choke which can be set up from standing and from the ground.

It’s great to see such accomplised athletes from BJJ and Judo exchanging techniques and knowledge.

Mendes bros stated:

a little bit of what we did yesterday, @flaviocanto brazilian judoka olympic medalist teaching me his signature choke after I teach him the berimbolo details

great example of a successful athlete who use his talent to work with his passion and help others around him, it was a pleasure to visit @institutoreacao and teach the guys there

In 2003 Flávio Canto created Instituto Reação, a non-governmental organization that promotes human development and social inclusion through sports and education, promoting judo from the sport initiation to a level of high performance. Instituto Reação works in low-income communities in Rio de Janeiro such as Rocinha, Pequena Cruzada, Cidade de Deus, Tubiacanga. The Institute serves about 1400 students and has played a prominent role in competitions, including having revealed the current Olympic, junior and senior judo world champion Rafaela Silva
