Martins Licis, a former World’s Strongest Man champion, has officially earned his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!
Licis claimed the World’s Strongest Man title in 2019 and later won the prestigious Arnold Classic in 2022.
With his background in elite strength sports, he brings an overwhelming physical advantage to grappling, standing at 6’3” and weighing around 350 pounds.
He first started training in BJJ roughly two years ago.
As a high-profile athlete, he’s also had the opportunity to train with some of the best in the sport, including a session with Gordon Ryan.
Licis hasn’t limited himself to just training – he’s also stepped into competition.
For instance, he recently made his debut at the ADCC San Diego Open 2025, entering a beginner division and winning gold in his weight class.
And, even more impressively, he secured both of his victories by submission!
Following this strong performance, Licis was promoted to blue belt by his coach, Thiago Rodrigues, at Torse House BJJ:
