Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida is set to make his return to professional MMA at ONE 169 – where he will face Amir Aliakbari.
Almeida’s MMA career began with impressive momentum, as he racked up three submission victories and one TKO in his first four bouts under the ONE Championship banner.
His run toward the heavyweight title was, however, halted when Oumar “Reug Reug” Kane handed him his first loss.
Eager to return, Almeida publicly requested another fight, and after a long wait – ONE Championship has matched him with Aliakbari, a seasoned Greco-Roman wrestler and fellow grappling specialist.
The matchup between Almeida and Aliakbari promises an exciting clash of grappling styles.
While Almeida has spent most of his career dominating in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Aliakbari is a decorated Greco-Roman wrestling world champion – who transitioned to MMA nearly a decade ago.
After being stripped of his second wrestling world title and banned from the sport for life due to doping, Aliakbari made his MMA debut in 2015.
He has since built a 14-3 professional record, riding a four-fight win streak into this matchup.
