ONE Championship has just dropped one of the biggest surprises of the year – Marcelo Garcia will face Lachlan Giles at ONE Fight Night 38!
The event already features another massive matchup, the Diogo Reis vs. Daiki Yonekura one for the vacant flyweight title – but for many fans, Garcia vs. Giles is the true main attraction.
It’s not just a clash between two world-class grapplers, but it’s a meeting between generations & styles that have each left an indelible mark on modern Jiu-Jitsu.
Garcia, widely regarded as one of the greatest BJJ competitors of all time, retired from competition after winning ADCC 2011, leaving behind a phenomenal resume.
His surprise comeback earlier this year at ONE 170 – where he submitted veteran Masakazu Imanari – was already one of 2025’s most talked-about moments.
Now, ONE Championship has decided to close out the year with another Garcia appearance, this time against Lachlan Giles.
Giles, meanwhile, hasn’t competed since ADCC 2022, where he impressed fans with his performances in both his weight class and the absolute division.
Though he never won an ADCC title like Garcia, Giles earned global respect for his methodical guard game and analytical approach to Jiu-Jitsu.
The news about the match were shared via ONE Championship’s social media:
