Marcelo Garcia has recently opened up about his past relationship with former student Dillon Danis.
Garcia described his relationship with Danis as strained during a time when he was grappling with immense personal loss and the responsibilities of managing his New York academy.
While navigating these challenges, Garcia found Danis’ behavior increasingly disruptive, leading to tensions within the gym:
It was a lot of little things that when you put together, it becomes like a big thing.
I was dealing with a lot at home with my kids being born.
I ended up losing my four month old. And what was a lot to me to handle, dealing with my family. And at the same time I was in the gym every day, teaching every day.
Garcia felt that Danis was not considerate of his circumstances. Instances of disruptive behavior, such as prank-calling instructors, added to the stress…
Ultimately forcing Garcia to take action:
I gave them (Danis and Mansher Khera) like a time off from the gym.
But at the same time that I give time off, they are definitely free to leave if they have to.And they ended up leaving and never come back.
Garcia left the door open for Danis to return, expecting growth and change – but that resolution never materialized:
I just don’t follow him. I just don’t know what’s going on with him.
I just don’t know too much about him now. What’s going on.
I mean, I hope he’s doing better.
